Sidewalk Cinema is a one-day film festival in Downtown Los Angeles dedicated to filmmakers who create first and ask permission later.
We believe some of the most exciting work being made today isn't coming from massive budgets or studio systems. It's being made in apartments, backyards, classrooms, coffee shops, and city streets. It's being shot on phones, edited on laptops, and brought to life by people who simply couldn't ignore an idea.
The barrier to making films has never been lower.
The barrier to being seen still exists.
Sidewalk Cinema was created to help close that gap.
We provide a platform for emerging filmmakers, independent artists, and creative risk-takers to share their work with an audience, connect with other storytellers, and engage in conversations about the future of filmmaking.
Sidewalk Cinema is more than a screening event.
Throughout the day, audiences will experience curated blocks of short films from filmmakers working across genres, styles, and backgrounds. Each film is selected for its originality, perspective, and ability to do something meaningful with the resources available.
Between screening blocks, industry professionals—including producers, filmmakers, actors, and creative entrepreneurs—will take the stage for candid conversations about their careers, creative process, and the realities of building a life in the industry.
No gatekeeping.
No vague advice.
Just honest insight from people doing the work.
Before the festival begins, filmmakers and their teams are invited to a pre-festival happy hour designed to foster connection, collaboration, and community among the people behind the films.
Together, these experiences create something larger than a traditional film festival.
Part screening. Part conversation. Part community.
We're interested in filmmakers with a point of view.
Whether your film was shot on a smartphone, made with a crew of two, or produced on a shoestring budget, what matters most is the idea behind it.
We gravitate toward work that is:
We celebrate filmmakers who turn limitations into creative advantages and find innovative ways to tell stories.
Because great films aren't defined by the resources behind them.
They're defined by the ideas that drive them.
